Emperor Festival

In Zhangjiajie, the most important festival of Tujia people is Emperor Festival celebrate on lunar month 9th, September. In local stories, the festival is commemorating Emperor Xiang dead on that day. The festival lasts one day and night or two days and nights. The people in participating must have tidy clothing. The contents in the festival are feting Emperor Xiang, performing dances and songs, interceding conflicts in villages and trading.

Sacrificing Land God

Tujia people sacrifice Land God because they believe Land God brought plant foison and protect them from diseases and devils. Every village built one or more Land God Temple. There are different types of Land God Temples, such as; simple temple made from four rocks and grand temple made from marbles.
